Simulations

Simulations can be used in a blocked class to create the effect or reality of a real situation or experience. Students participate in simulations of the real world by solving problems, completing developed packages of materials, or taking part in organized role-playing. Because of the extended time in a blocked class, students use short field trips to related sites as a part of simulations without being absent from an entire school day. Games, while more competitive than simulations and role-playing, are often included in the simulation family. Although it takes more time to plan, design, and implement a simulation, the increased student motivation and involvement are well worth the investment for greater student learning.
